CDE Scholar

I am currently enrolled in a two year full-time integrated programme that aims at qualifying individuals to lead initiatives, projects and institutions translating Copernicus data (remote sensing and in-situ) into information for management decisions within a broader Digital Earth vision.  In the first year, scholar study Earth Observation and Geoinformatics and undertake a specialization tracks pathway towards excellence in GeoData Science in the second year.

Graduates with a CDE Master’s degree are able to answer research questions, including the development of hypotheses, definition of objectives, selection of methods, implementation of workflows, collection, analysis and interpretation of data as well as a written and oral communication and interpretation of outcomes in a decision support context. The study programme provides application-oriented knowledge based on relevant theories and methods. Discipline-specific ways of thinking, analytical skills and techniques as well as problem-solving competences are developed in core areas of Copernicus and Digital Earth.

NF-POGO Scholar

The Nippon Foundation is highly successful in bringing together expertise from all over the world in educational programmes specializing in marine issues.  The Nippon Foundation-POGO Centre of Excellence (NF-POGO CofE) at the Alfred at the Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research was set up in 2013 with an excellent worldwide research and teaching reputation.  The programme initiated at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) from 2008 to 2012.  With its coastal Station of the Biological Institute of Helgoland (BAH) the AWI has amassed over a hundred years of capacity building experience.

As a scholar and POGO alumnus, I have received training that promotes excellence in integrated, multidisciplinary oceanography at a global scale. The detailed courses emphasize core skills (e.g. writing, scientific presentations, statistics and experimental design) and specialised scientific topics such as modelling, remote sensing, ocean-atmosphere interactions. Scholars also receive training in instrumentation, sample collection and analytical protocols. Each scholar had to conduct an independent research project during the programme.
