Academic qualifications

I hold a Bachelor degree with Honors in Marine Science and Technology from the University of Mauritius. I have completed a Postgraduate Certificate course in Observational Oceanography from the Alfred Wegener Institute Nippon Foundation-POGO Center of Excellence in Germany. During my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, I have gained knowledge in ocean remote sensing which has deepen my interest to think outside the box. I am currently finishing my Master's degree in Copernicus Digital Earth at the University of Salzburg in Austria and University of South Brittany in France to learn new state-of the art technologies to better explore the ocean.

Associate Research Scientist

Mauritius Oceanography Institute

I have always been fascinated with the vivid marine life that has motivated me to pursue my dream job as marine scientist. My professional experience as a researcher at the Mauritius Oceanography Institute has been very enriching to develop the abilities to participate in multidisciplinary projects. I have been very active in carrying fieldwork activities including deep sea diving to map the ocean.

Since I joined the MOI in 2012, I have been working across disciplines and have contributed in several local, regional and international research projects. My main duties at the MOI was to work as a team with other personnel members in order to achieve strategic objectives of the institute; handle technical jobs in connection with field and laboratory activities; and liaise with other stakeholders in the field of Oceanography, amongst others.

After my undergraduate studies, I have worked as Environmental Officer at Reef Conservation, a Non-Governmental Organisation for the protection and conservation of coral reefs and marine resources. I have also been exposed to outreach educational and awareness programmes with schools and the general public at large.

I was responsible to manage and coordinate a Marine Resource Centre and laboratory located in the north coast of Mauritius. I was carrying out outreach programs for people visiting the Marine Resource Centre as well as organizing field visits in different environment ecosystems such as mangroves, seagrass beds, coral reefs, wetlands and rocky shores.

My daily activities involves conducting experiments of the marine environment around Mauritius such as coral reef monitoring, analysis of plankton in the lagoons. An archive database of the various marine organisms were created for showcasing to visiting researchers, students, tourists and the general public.
